From Population Data to Population Intelligence: Strengthening Decision-Making in an Era of Data Constraints (UNSC 57 Side Event).

Side event of the 57th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission on the introduction of PDP+ the next generation country-owned population intelligence platform.

The global data ecosystem has undergone rapid transformation - expanding digital tools, advancing interoperability, and unlocking new analytical possibilities. Yet many countries face growing constraints: delayed censuses, disrupted surveys, financing shortfalls, and increasing demand for timely insights. At a moment when demographic change is reshaping economies and societies, the gap between data production and policy application is widening.

This side event will showcase how UNFPA is translating population data into actionable intelligence through the Population Data Portal Plus (PDP+). Designed as a country-owned, standards-aligned platform, PDP+ complements official statistical systems by integrating analytics, validation mechanisms, and forward-looking demographic insights. The session will explore how population intelligence can strengthen planning, foresight and accountability while upholding national ownership, statistical integrity and responsible innovation.
