Co-creating a Better Future: Advancing the Global Dialogue on Technology and Research (CPD59 Side Event).

This signature side-event at CPD59 will convene Member States, UN entities, youth leaders, and private sector partners to advance concrete action, collaboration and investment-readiness to technological innovation and research breakthroughs that accelerate the implementation of the ICPD PoA.
Technology and research are increasingly central to national development strategies under the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action (PoA) and the 2030 Agenda. When guided by gender equality and governed through a human rights-based approach, technological innovation and research breakthroughs can accelerate access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities across the life course across all contexts.

This signature side-event at CPD59 will convene Member States, UN entities, youth leaders, and private sector partners to advance concrete action, collaboration and investment-readiness to technological innovation and research breakthroughs that accelerate the implementation of the ICPD PoA.
● Examine technology and research breakthroughs as investable enablers of the national development priorities under the ICPD PoA and the SDGs. The event will provide a platform to examine how technology and research are being applied in support of the ICPD PoA and the SDGs, with attention to gender equality, empowerment of women and young people, digital safety and equity.
● Fostering collective action to close both the digital and research divides. The signature dialogue will showcase scalable partnerships and solutions that close the digital and research divides, while ensuring gender equality, digital safety, and accountability across the technology lifecycle. It will also explore how partnerships for innovative financing can help redirect investment toward underserved contexts.
● Affirm the position of women and young people as both key drivers and primary beneficiaries of transformative technology innovation in population and development. The event will underscore that progress depends not only on expanding access to digital solutions, but on ensuring that technologies are designed equitably from the start - by, for and with women and young people.
